DJ Weymouth Limited has been in business since 2002 and traded as Cumbria Horse Trials over the past 10 years. The business has considerable experience organising British Eventing (BE) Affiliated horse trials, nearly 50 so far, along with numerous unaffiliated competitions and training events, all of which are organised and delivered to the highest standards within the sport.
Our success to date originates from the combination of organisational skills and technical knowledge of the Directors and this has produced a year-round programme of competitions based at a variety of venues in northern Cumbria. Having previously worked in corporate event management for 12 years, in equestrian course design and horse trials event management for 14 years and, for British Eventing as a consultant Technical Adviser for 10 years, Douglas Weymouth is also listed as a highest level Platinum Course Builder with the national governing body. Lucinda Weymouth is a qualified Landscape Architect having previously worked for Capita and Cumbria County Council over 19 years between 1993 and 2012 and more recently has balanced family life with organising the extensive volunteers, trade and contractor requirements for Cumbria Horse Trial’s events. We have four children aged between 12 and 17.
Our aim is to provide Cumbria and its neighbouring equestrian communities with a set of competitions and training events to bring first time riders, inexperienced horses and those combinations who wish simply to enjoy the sport and progress through the grassroots levels considerable enjoyment and achievement. Much of our year-round efforts are dedicated to leading the way with innovative programmes, the implementation of safety features, the accessibility of entering and viewing results and, essentially ensuring participants and their supporters are made to feel welcome so their experience is as rewarding and friendly as it could be. There are of course other providers of events and facilities in the region and we aim to ensure our presentation, style and approach leads the way. Where we invest in venues, equipment and the launching of new ideas we only look to make these viable and sustainable and, critically to ensure they meet the stated minimum standards of British Eventing. For the future we will be focusing on our BE & BD/BS Affiliated events along with the various unaffiliated series and training courses already featured in our 2018 calendar. and these will be anchored to Warwick Hall, Frenchfield Park and a few other well tested venues. The challenges of providing such an extensive and well produced set of events is considerable in such a rural and sparsely populated County, particularly where there is such high rainfall. Occasionally the weather will of course mean we must very reluctantly abandon events despite the majority of the organisation, cost and investment has already been incurred. The appreciation of this by most competitors is remarkable, although a few still believe we have a crystal ball better than the Met Office!
We look forward to our upcoming Arena Eventing Series and indeed over the next 12 months we look forward to seeing everyone.
