The AW Jenkinson Forest Products Frenchfield (2) horse trials in Cumbria have seen a tremendous uptake in entries with some 580 starters expected across all 5 classes from BE80T to Novice including the new BE90 Open U18. Some 450 horses will be new to the event with well over 100 of those attending their first to fourth event ever with a further 20 becoming newcomers to the sport. With an open rolling landscape Frenchfield enjoys remarkably good viewing for owners and the general public with lovely views across the mountains of the Lake District. Joint organiser Douglas Weymouth commented ‘it is so encouraging to see such a strong entry book in this area this autumn and with so many new horses coming to take on the undulating terrain at Frenchfield we are looking forward to an exciting weekend’. Competitors will traverse a 2400m cross country track over sandy going, taking in the newly created Santa Rita Wines Dew Pond and the Lakes Free Range Egg Company Chicken Corners. Frenchfield will also welcome new national BE sponsor Science Supplements for their two BE90 Regional Final sections and representatives from the company will be on hand at the Main Marquee to meet competitors. The Cumbria Horse Trials Series incorporates two Frenchfield and three Warwick Hall fixtures and in the Robinson Udale Accountants Cumbria Riders Challenge Trophy Emma Little, fresh from a very successful run at Blair Castle currently heading the leader board on 21 points with her ride Alecon. All classes at Frenchfield now have waitlists which are full and entries have been closed. Preparations for the event are well in hand with all the arena and course areas reported to be in great shape awaiting final installation and dressing of the cross country fences.
