Leanne and Hayley shine on Sunday at Frenchfield

The Graves family from High Hesket near Carlisle enjoyed a fabulous day at Frenchfield when Leanne Graves riding Showcase won the Santa Rita Wines BE100 Section M with a double clear round and finishing on 22.8 penalties and Hayley Graves (pictured centre with Julie Wylie of AW Jenkinson Forest Products) riding Beau Niewmoed came third in the AW Jenkinson Forest Products BE90 Section J earlier in the day.  Leanne was pleased with her horse’s performance beating Olympic medalist Nicola Wilson who came third on her young horse PRF Elite Baloubet and last years Cumbria Young Rider Champion Sadie Jackson on Kodak coming fourth.  The cross country courses once again proved influential with the more technical fences catching out various riders and horses over the weekend over the undulating terrain.  There were more excellent performances from Cumbrian based riders including Becky Paul from the west coast of the county with Hyton Rustic Charm coming third in Horslyx BE80 Section N gaining 7 points to make them the overall winners of the Cumbria Series BE80 Championship and finishing on 30 points just ahead of Kerry Armstrong from the North East riding Hoylihans Rio Royale who came second and finishing on 28 points.  Claire Light enjoyed yet another successful weekend with her string of horses taking 5th with Curry Lucy in BE80 Section O, fourth  with Mount Batten in BE80 Section N and, seventh in the Mitsubishi Motors BE90 Regional Final Section Section D riding Ruby Red II adding 17 points to her Cumbria Rider of the Year accumulator.   Natalie Ireland from Kendal riding Cherokee Brave will have been pleased to come in the top 20% of BE Section E Regional Finalists to qualify to go to the Mitsubishi Motors Cup final at Badminton in 2019.  Performance of the weekend perhaps goes to Jennifer Bowman from Penrith who stepped up last minute to take the ride Mary Richardson’s 14.2 hand pony Allanagh Quellissima (pictured left) to win Santa Rita Wines BE100 Section H finishing on just 23.2 penalties.   The final placings of the Cumbria Series Leader boards will be updated, checked and published soon.
