There were many competitors galloping across the wonderful old turf at Warwick Hall Estate this weekend and all appeared to be enjoying themselves no matter their scores, results and performances with wins for many professional, amateur and newcomers riders alike. A good atmosphere prevailed across with a large crowd of followers and spectators basking in the sunshine on Saturday where local rider Mark Davidson from High Hesket riding Striding Edge made a welcome return to take 4th Novice Section A against strong competition. Nina Smith from Appleby with her Prospero IV took a third in Novice Section B and Rebecca Glasson from Dishforth won her Novice Section C. The many BE100 sections sponsored by Santa Rita Wines saw a 4th for Sarah Jones from Calthwaite on Everglade and in the BE90 on Saturday John Thornton also from High Hesket was very pleased to ride Julie Wylie’s Gratina to come 2nd. On Sunday it was the turn for the BE80 competitors to battle it out and in Section L Susan Chappelhow Lacey from Gretna riding GLENMORE OF ROISBHEINN fought off a strong challenge from Hollie Airey from Wigton with ALWEN DEWIN to win. Jo Beattie from Appleby on her Dream Woman came 2nd in BE90 Section O. Olympian and BHS Fellow Ian Stark was out and about taking part in the BE100 Section R coming 11th. Many combinations struggled to make the time even in good ground conditions over the long cross country courses. After a full and long weekend the ground had withstood some 550 horses competing and has been left in great shape for the next event on 16/17th June.
