This week sees the second running of the Waitings Warwick Hall horse trials, where some 150 entrants will return for their next chance to gain a valuable placing in the Warwick Hall Cup Series. The current leaders in this 3 event challenge will include local riders Sam Arthur-Magennis with Springtime Jazz and Sorrel Smith with As You Like It who both won at the first event just 4 weeks ago, whilst other local Cumbrian riders including Jodie Gray, Amy Veitch, Clare Chappelhow and Emily Arter are now the leading riders in the concurrently running Robinson Udale Cumbria Riders Challenge Trophy which takes in all 7 of the County’s horse trials. With a capacity entry of 525 starters and following some welcome rain over the past week, the event looks set to once again provide ideal conditions for this popular grassroots event. Various fences on the 17 fence cross country course have been moved or altered and a new Main Arena has been set up for the show jumping. Organisers Douglas and Lucinda Weymouth commented on the commitment provided by their volunteers ‘we are so lucky to have such support in our rural area allowing this many horse trials to run so well and so our sincere thanks go out to everyone who gives their time to make the sport so vibrant in the County’.
