There were many superb performances in near perfect conditions over the weekend at Dalston Green horse trials. On Sunday the 100 BE80 competitors took advantage of the good going with many enjoying their first outing of the season. The cross country caught a few less experienced combinations, particularly in the second half of the courses and John Collier’s show jumping tracks, were once again widely praised. There were many spectators attending the trials and clearly thrilled with seeing the well turned out horses and riders in action. Our thanks go to the many volunteers, stewards and officials who ensured the safe running of the event and of course to our title sponsors AW Jenkinson Forest Products for their generous support.
There were some notable wins and high placings for our local Cumbrian riders with Jodie Grey and Danny Murphy enjoying a 3rd along with Thomas Collier on Balmyrehorses Kracker and Deborah Hogg stepping up to take an 8th in the BE80 Sections. Becky Paul on Deacon Que was 7th and Richard Nichol on Storm Surge 5th in the BE90 Sections. Francesca Weymouth won her BE90 Open Section on the experienced Vattrick and in the process gaining a necessary and valuable qualification to allow her to move up to BE100 this summer under the new minimum qualification rules introduced by British Eventing earlier this year. Amy Veitch enjoyed a good run on Lorton Braveheart to come 4th in the final BE100 section of the day. On Saturday Cumbrians Clare Chappelhow on Crakenthorpe Waniky won their BE90 section; Harry Mutch won his 90 and Emily Arter came second. Jennifer Pearson, last year’s Rider of the Year won her BE100 Open section with Dassett Two for Joy and also a 6th on Vorecky Silver. The Robinson Udale Cumbria Riders Challenge Leader Board will be updated and will appear HERE along with the Lakes Free Range Egg Company’s Junior Rider and Jim Walton (Toyota) Young Rider leaderboards too.
